The National Precast Concrete Association Board has appointed Frederick Grubbe, MBA, CAE, successor to President and CEO Ty Gable, who will cap 25-plus years with the Carmel, Ind. group with a previously announced year-end retirement. Effective January 2020, Grubbe will lead NPCA’s staff, programs and activities to ensure objectives are attained, plans fulfilled, and member needs are met. He will participate with directors in developing the strategic plan and maintaining effective internal and external relationships.

Champion Precast chief Ohmes named NPCA chairman

Jonathan Ohmes, chief executive officer of Troy, Mo.-based Champion Precast, was elected chairman during the 54th annual National Precast Concrete Association convention, held earlier this month in Seattle. Reflecting on his family’s background in the industry and own time with NPCA, starting at the 1985 annual meeting, Ohmes told members, “The best part about NPCA is while no two histories are alike, we are all now a part of the future of NPCA and the precast industry together.”

The National Precast Concrete Association is promoting the inaugural Precast Days as an event where producer members can provide engineers, specifiers, students, professors, and the community at large with a personal, up-close look at their operations. NPCA has set up a portal, www.precast.org/precastdays, through which members can choose a plant tour date during the last two weeks of October. The NPCA Board has approved funding to provide national marketing support for the event, including an extensive campaign in business-to-business publications, along with promotion in social media channels.

Milwaukee-based Scott Campbell, Ph.D., P.E. is the newest National Ready Mixed Concrete Association Building Promotion team member. As senior vice president of Structures and Codes, he will join colleagues in advancing industry interests through model codes and technical standards, and support state and local advocacy efforts. He will work closely with engineers and architects, code advocates, and legislative specialists to offer technically correct code-related solutions that maintain public safety and increase building resilience. Campbell holds Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. He moves to NRMCA from Portland Cement Association, where he served as director of Code Technology.
