The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association is recognizing 975 of the nearly 1,500 producer member plants entered into the 2019 Excellence in Safety Awards Program. The record number of plants spans Gold (918 recipients), Silver (five) and Bronze (52) categories defined by Occupational Safety and Health Administration and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics incident rate (IR) thresholds.

NPCA to resume audits for precast plant certification

After a nearly four-month, pandemic-spurred hiatus, National Precast Concrete Association Plant Certification resumes July 6, the Quality Assurance/Quality Control Committee modifying the program to allow for virtual and in-plant audits through the remainder of 2020. All annual renewal audits, regardless of method, will be unannounced and scored against the current NPCA Quality Control Manual for Plant Certification grading schedule.

St. Louis-based Afinitas has appointed Dan Hodel as senior automation engineer, reporting to Dave Stoller, vice president of Global Engineering. He brings nearly 20 years’ experience with Johnson Gas of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; as a concrete curing division combustion engineer, he oversaw design, technical support, sales and marketing for pipe, prestressed, precast, block, paver and roof tile applications. Hodel also worked as an automation engineer for Advance Interface Solutions and process engineer for Eli Lilly.

NPCA, PCI delineate plant certification requirements by product category
The National Precast Concrete Association and Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute have issued Joint Concrete Products List (JCPL 11-19) to alleviate confusion regarding precast and prestressed concrete product certification programs, and enable specifiers to easily determine whether products require NPCA or PCI certification, or whether either is allowable. The document ensures accurate specification of certification programs and that all appropriately certified plants are able to bid a project.
