Mixer Driver Championship registration continues through July

The NRMCA Safety, Environmental and Operations Committee is accepting 2018 National Mixer Driver Championship applications through August 1. The driver challenge course and written exam will take place September 29 at Gaylord National Resort, National Harbor, Md., near Washington, D.C., concurrent with the association’s ConcreteWorks program and committee meetings, September 28-October 1.

Eastern Concrete, Cemex, Maschmeyer pros top Mixer Driver Championship

Eastern Concrete Materials veteran Ed Rieper took the 2017 National Mixer Driver Championship, staged October 1-2 in Grapevine, Texas, during the NRMCA ConcreteWorks Conference. The first place finish earned the Saddle Brook, N.J., driver a $2,500 check from the NRMCA Truck Mixer Manufacturers Bureau, and adds to his 2016 National Mixer Driver Championship fifth-place and 2015 NRMCA Driver of the Year honors.

NRMCA, Pumping group continue ConcreteWorks, Education Conference plan

The American Concrete Pumping Association and National Ready Mixed Concrete Association will once again co-locate their fall gatherings, ACPA Building the Momentum Education Conference and ConcreteWorks. Following the record attendance and momentum from the first such joint effort—September 2016 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort, Nashville—they will convene October 2-3 at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas.

National Ready Mixed Concrete Association 2016 ConcreteWorks attendees were afforded the first formal showing of the successor to the Kenworth W900S, a longstanding model for mixer trucks running in bridge formula markets. The T880 Set-Forward Front Axle (T880S) was previewed September 18-20 in Nashville and will be among the manufacturer’s 2017 World of Concrete and ConExpo-Con/Agg headline offerings.

From a record, 82-contestant field, Chris Harrison of Mobley Concrete Co. in Russellville, Ark., took the NRMCA National Mixer Driver Championship in Nashville, staged September 18-19 during the group’s 2016 ConcreteWorks. After placing second in the 2015 competition (San Antonio), Harrison earned a $2,500 cash prize from the NRMCA’s Truck Mixer Manufacturers Bureau (TMMB) for this year’s first place finish.

Backing accident prevention kicks off online driver training series

In advance of an online driver training series to be formally released this month at the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s ConcreteWorks Conference & Expo, the RMC Research and Education Foundation has posted on YouTube a preview of a two-lesson module addressing truck backing safety. The series will offer participants e-learning lessons 24/7, with backing accident prevention to be followed by lessons on equipment lock out/tag out procedures, plus slip, trip and fall prevention—topics that lead Occupational Safety and Health Administration citation activity among ready mixed producers. The lessons were shot at NRMCA producer members’ plants and at onsite pours so viewers relate to how a concept applies directly to their circumstances.
