Nine plants in seven states have earned 2019 NRMCA Environmental Excellence Awards. Now in its 24th year, the program offers producer members national recognition for outstanding contributions to protecting the environment and maintaining sound pollution control and abatement practices. The NRMCA Safety, Environmental and Operations Committee names plants and their owners by region, saluting this year:
Eastern
First place: Preferred Materials, Inc., Lakeland Plant, Lakeland, Fla.
Second place: Maschmeyer Concrete & Co., Silver Star Plant, Orlando, Fla.
Third place: R.W. Sidley Inc., North Canton Plant, North Canton, Ohio
Central
First place: Campbell Concrete & Materials, Hardy Plant, Houston
Second place: Campbell Concrete & Materials, Hockley Plant, Hockley, Texas
Third place: Cemstone Products Co., Arlington Plant, Arlington, Minn.
Western Region
First place: Central Concrete Supply, Martinez Plant, Martinez, Calif.
Second place: CalPortland Co., Kenmore Plant, Kenmore, Calif.

“Program rules changes have made it easier for plants to enter, making the competition even tougher. These plants have demonstrated that they are the ‘best of the best’ when it comes to being good stewards of the environment,” says NRMCA Executive Vice President of Operations and Compliance Gary Mullings.
A panel of judges reviews entries consisting of plant images plus narratives covering site aesthetics, environmental documentation, training, water management, air quality management, returned concrete plan, community relations, concrete delivery and plant sustainability practices. NRMCA will honor operators of the Environmental Excellence Award-winning plants during the ConcreteWorks conference, October 3-5 in Orlando. Concrete Products will feature the operations in November.
