International Truck has completed a transition from its WorkStar line with the HV Series Mid-Range Diesel trucks, including a bridge formula model—the set forward axle HV507 with rear-engine power take-off—suited for concrete delivery. Unveiled at World of Concrete 2018, the HV507 and set back axle HV607 are sized at 107-in. bumper-to-back-of-cab, powered by Cummins L9 or B6.7 engines, and serve as vocational market companions to the regional or long-haul HV513 and HV613 International introduced at the 2017 North American Commercial Vehicle Show.

BASF AG and CRH Plc are among 30 companies joining the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s Factor10. The initiative seeks to advance principles of the circular economy, where the “take-make-dispose” economic model yields to one that is regenerative by design. Liebherr Concrete Technology has announced North American market availability of the RIV 2.5 D Ring-Pan mixer, equipped with separate motors driving the main shaft and mixing arms plus agitator rotors. Shaft and agitator rotational speeds can be adjusted to specific concrete mix designs, and set at different rates for dry or wet loads and discharge cycles. Variable mixing control features make the model especially suited to high performance concrete.

Terex Advance bills the Charger front discharge mixer as its first true city-class truck designed and built specifically for delivering concrete in urban areas. Premiering in a three-axle version at World of Concrete 2018, the lighter, shorter model offers the tight turning radius characteristics of traditional Terex Advance front discharge mixers, and is priced competitively with conventional rear discharge trucks.

BASF has announced a first-of-its-kind liquid admixture that improves early- and late-age strength development in concrete. Dosed at up to 10 oz./100 cwt, Master X-Seed 55 is a stable suspension of synthetically produced crystalline calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) nanoparticles that facilitate growth of CSH crystals between cement grains and improve overall portland cement hydration.

NCMA is finalizing the agenda for the International Concrete Exposition: Machinery & Equipment Show, whose inaugural staging is set for February 9-10 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. True to the ICON Expo 2018 theme, the small-scale exhibit component built into event’s schedule since 2015 will be replaced by a larger trade show, complete with plant components and machinery—and 16 hours of booth time between Friday and Saturday. ICON Expo 2018 will be held in conjunction with NCMA Annual Convention, February 6-8, and the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute’s Annual Meeting, February 11-14.

The authority overseeing the widely adopted International Building and International Residential Codes is ramping up promotion of the 38th annual Building Safety Month with an unmistakable message: “Building Codes Save Lives.” The ICC-led, international campaign is celebrated by jurisdictions worldwide during the month of May and raises awareness about building safety and the importance of current safety codes and code officials’ role in creating safe, sustainable structures that communities can rely on for generations.
