Gardner, FACI, University of Ottawa, and Luc Monette of HP Engineering Inc., Ottawa, for their work in parametric analysis evaluation of flat plates constructed using a single level of shores and multiple levels of elastic reshores.

Portland Cement Association has named Michael Schon vice president and counsel for Government Affairs. He will have lead responsibility for shepherding the association’s regulatory advocacy efforts and promoting the cement industry in general. He joins PCA from Baker Botts L.L.P., where he served as Environmental Practice Group senior associate, representing energy and manufacturing clients in environmental litigation, while providing regulatory guidance and counseling for federal and state environmental issues.

The American Coal Ash Association Educational Foundation awarded $7,500 in scholarships to two university students with interests in advancing the sustainable and environmentally responsible use of coal combustion products. The Foundation also announced new names for the scholarships honoring coal ash beneficial use industry leaders.

The Wisconsin Ready Mixed Concrete Association is accepting through month’s end entries for its 33rd Annual Concrete Design Awards, showcasing the best examples of cast-in-place concrete in Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (UP). WRMCA, County Materials Corp. and the Wisconsin Chapter of ACI International are cosponsoring the awards program, with entries judged by a panel of educators and construction professionals.
