Ready mixed producers quantify double-digit carbon footprint cut

Data behind a new NRMCA life cycle assessment report for finished concrete shows how ready mixed producers, through more efficient use of portland cement, have cut the respective carbon footprints of 4,000 psi and 8,000 psi orders by 13 percent and 20 percent since 2014. The association surveyed 155 member producers representing 1,954 ready mixed plants, analyzing data on material throughput and other metrics reflecting net energy consumption in slabs or structures.

NLRB affirms legality of Argos zero tolerance cell phone policy

The National Labor Relations Board has determined that a ready mixed concrete producer can restrict employees’ possession of cell phones in heavy-duty trucks, disclosure of compensation and other business matters, and use of company e-mail for nonwork purposes without violating their National Labor Relations Act-defined organizing rights.

Incident rate in ready mixed production remains at decade trough

Just-released U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics 2018 workplace injury and illness data show a ready mixed concrete industry incident rate of 3.9 in 2018, unchanged from the prior year. Over the past decade, the injury- or illness-rooted lost work time benchmark among producers has ranged from the 2017-18 lows to 6.3 in 2014.
