Spahn moves from Concrete Pipe to Concrete Masonry Checkoff

Kim Spahn

American Concrete Pipe Association Vice President of Operations Kim Spahn, P.E. has been appointed the inaugural Concrete Masonry Checkoff chief executive officer. An exhaustive national search to fill the position attracted more than 300 applicants, Spahn quickly emerging as the CMC Board’s top choice given her unique background and skill set.

“We really valued Kim’s perspective as a civil engineer with a deep technical acumen,” affirms Board Vice Chair Kendall Anderegg (Mutual Materials). “But when you couple that with her track record of transformation and ability to act on big-picture, creative thinking, it became apparent that she was made for this role.”

In 17 years at ACPA, Spahn has cultivated trusted partnerships with industry stakeholders, government agencies and elected officials throughout North America. In her most recent role, she has supported the executive committee and spearheaded state association directors, while immersing herself in regional management responsibilities and budgets.

She has also led several key initiatives collaborating with the ACPA directors and committees, the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials and American Society for Testing Materials to drive the goals of ACPA and its foundation forward.

“I cannot wait to work alongside this talented group to restore concrete block’s prominence,” Spahn affirms. She cites the national CMC Board and its Regional Advisory Committees, along with the Department of Commerce and industry associations as key partnerships in realizing a Concrete Masonry Checkoff mission of research, education and promotion. The ensuing industry growth, she adds, “will unite and support the communities where our manufacturers supply the safest, most resilient and sustainable building product in the world.”

BLOCK & PAVER PLANT SAFETY
The Concrete Masonry & Hardscapes Association has named 2022 Safety Award recipients: 158 block, paver or manufactured stone veneer producers, allied manufacturers or suppliers, and contractors or installers. The annual program honors CMHA members demonstrating a commitment to the well-being of their employees and work environment.

Participants earn awards by submitting qualifying OSHA 300A log or equivalent Canadian injury report data. For 2022, 10 Milestone Awards were presented to facilities with more than five consecutive years of Safety Award Program entries with zero OSHA or Canadian injury report incidents. CMHA also presented 111 Platinum (highest level of single year achievement), 26 Gold and 11 Silver Awards, each based on 2022 Incident Rate or Days Away for Restrictions and Transfer Rate formulas.
