Building material machine makers adapt to market trends
The 2016 bauma trade fair is poised to be a major showcase for the latest technology in construction and building material machinery. Top themes in all sections of the exhibition will once more be resource and energy efficiency. The 31st edition of bauma, billed as “the World’s Leading Trade Fair for Construction Machinery, Building Material Machines, Mining Machines, Construction Vehicles and Construction Equipment,” will take place April 11-17, 2016, at the Messe Muenchen exhibition center in Munich.
Mapei Targets Architects in Online Education Launch
As part of its commitment to educating design professionals about the role that its products play in concrete and throughout the construction industry, Deerfield Beach, Fla.-based Mapei Americas has opened a free online program for architects in the U.S. and Canada. Participants can gain continuing-education units recognized by the American Institute of Architects and Architectural Institute of British Columbia.

The parent of rear and front discharge mixer truck leader McNeilus Cos. has announced an executive transition, effective January 2016: Wilson Jones, president and chief operating officer, will replace Charlie Szews as Oshkosh Corp. chief executive officer. Since his 2005 appointment as Oshkosh Airport Products Business Unit vice president and general manager, Jones has held executive vice president and president posts in the Access Equipment (JLG) and Fire & Emergency (Pierce) segments—companions to the Commercial segment over McNeilus. In addition to the CEO appointment, he will replace Szews on the Oshkosh board.
NRMCA honors Excellence in Quality Award recipients
The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association has recognized producer members in three 2015 Excellence in Quality Award categories according to annual production: A (> 1 million cu. yd.), B (250,000–1 million yd.) and C (< 250,000 yd.). Recipients have demonstrated they exceed quality management principles over a broad range of activities, from materials to production to customer satisfaction.
CTLGroup’s Plain-Concrete Concept Lands in NASA Building Challenge
CTLGroup staff received one of three Best of Class Awards in America Makes, a $2.25 million competition in which sponsors NASA and the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute challenge participants to develop advanced architectural concepts that take advantage of 3-D capabilities. The designs will contribute to future Mars exploration and construction in remote areas on Earth.
