Freightliner Trucks has announced two executive appointments timed with assembly of the final Sterling Trucks unit in mid-March. Richard Saward, formerly Sterling and Western Star vice president, Sales, has been named Freightliner general manager, M2 and Vocational Sales. Jim Looysen, formerly Freightliner director, Business Class/Vocational Sales, has been named general manager, Western Star Trucks.
Saward notes that Sterling sales will continue from dealers’ inventory and the brand will live as long as the trucks live. He will oversee the Freightliner M2 series’ succession of Sterling Class 6-8, vocational market models. A new M2 will also replace the Freightliner FLD; a 120-in. bbc model commonly specified for mixers and dumps, it has not been engineered for 2010 EPA-compliant power. Western Star’s vocational offering will center on the 4900 and heavier duty 6900.
