Charah Solutions has secured a byproduct sales and material handling contract extension for the Luminant Miami Fort and Zimmer power plants in southern Ohio. It will continue to manage and market the facilities’ coal combustion products, including all specification grade Class F fly ash.

Through truck, rail and barge operations across its MultiSource materials network, Charah Solutions transfers Miami Fort and Zimmer ash to concrete producers in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, North Carolina, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana and Oklahoma.

“This is a great example of our unique ability to bundle service offerings for utilities,” says Charah CEO Scott Sewell. “As a result, concrete producers are now able to reliably purchase quality fly ash through the MultiSource network in the Midwest, Northeast and deep South. In addition, we have dramatically reduced the need to landfill high quality fly ash at Miami Fort and Zimmer, saving Luminant both expense and valuable landfill space.”

“This extended agreement will help Miami Fort and Zimmer move towards 100 percent beneficial re-use of our byproducts,” adds Luminant Manager of Byproducts and Refined Coal Todd Stinson. “Charah Solutions’ ongoing presence in the Ohio River region and broad terminal network will continue to be a major factor in achieving this goal.”
