Charah Solutions will open a second facility using new grinding technologies for finishing granulated blast furnace slag as a supplementary cementitious material. Scheduled to be fully operational in the third quarter of 2019, the facility is located within Watco’s Greens Port Industrial Terminal (GPIT) on the Houston Ship Channel, and accessible by ship, truck and rail. It will deploy processing methods developed by SCB International, which Charah acquired last year and premiered at a New York terminal along the Hudson River.

Fly ash processor Charah Solutions Inc. has sited its first facility with patented granulated blast furnace slag grinding technology at the Port of Coeymans, 100 miles up the Hudson River from New York City. With barge, rail and truck access, it will finish MultiCem-branded slag cement to be distributed through the company’s MultiSource materials network.

Fly ash processor and marketer Charah has secured an exclusive agreement covering coal combustion products from the Consumers Energy J.H. Campbell complex in West Olive, Mich. It will sell the facility’s Class C fly ash to Great Lakes concrete and cement customers, and also move material through its MultiSource terminal network serving Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, South, Mountain and West regions. Charah will also market the generating station’s bottom ash for such applications as Class 1A backfill, cement kiln raw feed, and lightweight aggregate or flowable fill mixtures.

Charah has opened a fly ash storage terminal in Kelim, Colo., north of Denver, in partnership with Great Western Railway of Colorado operator and rail-to-truck transloading services provider OmniTRAX. Geared to Rocky Mountain States concrete producers, the facility joins the Charah MultiSource Class C and Class F fly ash distribution network, whose recent expansion has also seen new terminals in California, the Midwest, New England and the South.

The largest independent coal ash processor and marketer has added a Sulphur, La., terminal to a distribution system of multiple sourcing locations across the country, aimed at ensuring concrete producers and other customers a steady and reliable supply of Class C and Class F fly ash. The new site offers Greater Lake Charles/Sulfur Area producers Class F fly ash, and is Charah’s second barge-supplied location in southern Louisiana—alongside a LaPlace terminal serving in state, Mississippi and Alabama accounts.
