Construction life cycle assessment pioneer retools Pavement software

The developer of a life cycle assessment (LCA) tool informing ready mixed and manufactured-concrete interests’ product category rules (PCR) and environmental product declarations (EPD) has released Pavement LCA Version 2.1, succeeding the Impact Estimator for Highways software. Athena Institute envisioned the charter program for major freeway and arterial roadway assessment, but notes the tool can now gauge the environmental footprint of any roadway cross-section along its length and over its service life.

Continuing education services provider GreenCE, Inc. cites the industry’s first comprehensive LEED v4 specification program for building product and material interests. The new U.S. Green Building Council rating system compels manufacturers and suppliers to submit product and material documentation as part of significant changes surrounding project credits.

A representative sampling of energy consumption trends from a coast-to-coast, cross section of producers contributes to the NRMCA LCI Data Collection Summary Statistics, boosting the credibility of an industry-wide EPD for transit or central mixed concrete.

Tally software provides life cycle assessment data on concrete and steel—yellow and green on the pie charts, respectively—and other materials and products early in the design stage. In response to new requirements in LEED v4, Challenge 2030 and other rating systems or project benchmarking efforts, green building practitioners are increasingly weighing LCA data in specifications.

Philadelphia architect KieranTimberlake has released a beta version of Tally, a software application allowing users to measure building materials’ and products’ environmental impact directly in Autodesk’s Revit—a key software program to support building information modeling.
