RMC Foundation releases driver recruitment, onboarding resources

With an eye to helping ready mixed producers introduce prospective truck drivers to the industry and their own companies, the Ready Mixed Concrete Research & Education Foundation has released two- and nine-minute recruitment videos plus 30- and 60-second radio spots. The videos can also serve as interview and onboarding resources to give candidates and new-hires an in-depth look at “A Day in the Life” of a professional mixer truck driver.

The American Society of Concrete Contractors Safety & Risk Management Council (SRMC) has released a new Employee Safety Orientation DVD for concrete contractors. Shot on active concrete construction sites, it covers alcohol and substance abuse, personal protective equipment, pre-task planning, hand and power tools, fire prevention, excavation and trenching, handling fresh concrete, forming, rebar, pumping, hazardous materials and much more. An accompanying User Guide explains how to use the DVD most effectively and contains sample test questions.

Concrete Industry Management Program auction grosses $800K+

With confirmed live, online and silent bids exceeding $810,000, the Concrete Industry Management Program National Steering Committee reports that the 2014 World of Concrete Auction bested last year’s record gross by nearly $200,000.

“We had a record in terms of the value of donated items and auction attendees that helped make this year’s event a huge success,” notes Cemex’s Mike Philipps, who chaired the committee organizing the Las Vegas Convention Center-staged, January 22 fundraiser. “Everyone stepped up to donate and bid on great items.”
