Xypex formulates Visual Detection System for signature admixture

Verifying performance admixtures’ presence in fresh concrete, including crystalline types for integral waterproofing, has traditionally hinged on meticulous quality control processes such as thorough batching and shipping documentation. Detection in hardened concrete has proved an even greater challenge.

Tracers have been used to address stakeholder concerns about confirming crystalline admixture use, although many either alter the concrete’s color or affect bleed water—allowing verification only within a limited timeframe after mix placement. In response, Xypex has introduced the Visual Detection System (VDS), proving the presence of its namesake Admix crystalline agent in hardened concrete for weeks after placement. VDS signifies more than just progress, the company notes: It exemplifies an “unwavering commitment to innovation, leading the industry in quality assurance and environmental sustainability. With VDS, we continue to set the benchmark in concrete waterproofing technology.”

VDS utilizes specially engineered particles that fluoresce under a specific wavelength of light, observable through tinted goggles. The technology allows for the straightforward detection of Xypex Admix in concrete, even after hardening, without changing the appearance of the concrete to the naked eye. — Xypex Chemical Corp., Richmond, B.C., 604/273-5265 or 800/961-4477; www.xypex.com

RUST-OLEUM RAISES PACKAGING EFFICIENCY
