McNeilus has confirmed plans for a phased, second half move of concrete mixer truck building from its Minnesota flagship to sister Oshkosh Corp. and London Machinery plants in Wisconsin and Ontario.
“Adding McNeilus mixers to these other world-class manufacturing facilities provides upgraded economies-of-scale and tailored flexibility for our mixer business,” says Bob Monchamp, vice president and general manager of Concrete Mixers for McNeilus and London. “While this provides the growth capacity needed, the simplified platform allows our ability to expand resources for the customers we serve in North American and global markets. We will continue to invest in superior customer experiences, customer support and product innovations.”
The Oshkosh, Wis., plant will concentrate on front discharge mixers. A London, Ontario plant purpose-built for concrete delivery trucks will focus on McNeilus and London rear discharge models. Completed in 2009, the 145,000 sq. ft. plant is the industry’s largest dedicated to mixer body building and has delivered several hundred McNeilus models since 2017. An established supply chain with current and new material, part and component partners can support the increased capacity at London.
The McNeilus campus in southeast Minnesota has been home to namesake mixer production since 1970. While it has expanded in size over the years, the increased demand for production space has exceeded the property’s capacity for both McNeilus concrete mixers and refuse collection vehicles. The Dodge Center headquarters will remain home to the Mixer Research & Development Center for concrete placement equipment. Engineering teams continue to pursue customer-driven innovations, led by the next phases of the FLEX Controls system geared to maximizing total cost of mixer truck ownership.
Along with McNeilus nameplate production, the transition will see changes to enhance overall customer experiences by bringing together truck and aftermarket part sales teams. Each account will have a dedicated point person for the entire lifecycle of its product. Current branch locations, along with customer support and service functions, remain as they are.
“We continually evaluate our businesses to ensure we’re focused on products, services and industries that align with customer requirements and strategic vision. Consolidating manufacturing of all our mixer brands unlocks much-needed capacity and scale,” affirms McNeilus President and Oshkosh Corp. Commercial Segment Executive Vice President Brad Nelson.
