Leading into their April 11-17 namesake trade fair that drew 580,000 visitors and 3,400-plus exhibitors to Munich, bauma 2016 organizers presented Innovation Awards to six companies and research institutions. In the components category, Imko GmbH was recognized for its Sono-WZ, a hand-held device that can quickly and accurately gauge fresh-concrete moisture.
Imko is based in Ettlingen, Germany, and represented in North America by Advanced Control Systems, Greenland, N.H., a sister company of Advanced Concrete Technologies. It designed the Sono-WZ for users to enter mix parameters in the hand-held unit, then insert a separate probe into the concrete multiple times to obtain a moisture level reading.
The bauma Innovation Award reflects “the innovativeness of the German and international construction, building material and mining machine industry,” Bavarian Economics Minister Ilse Aigner said in a nod to winning companies and other competition participants. “It serves not only as a demonstration of what is technically feasible, but also points the way to the future.” The award is presented as part of bauma, staged every three years at the Messe München grounds. — www.acscontrols.biz; 603/373-6400; Imko GmbH, www.imko.de
