The Yale University Health Center in New Haven, Conn., brings another milestone to Turner Construction, the largest general contractor in buildings and one of the oldest players in reinforced concrete work. The 140,000-sq.-ft. facility in New Haven, Conn., is the contractor’s 200th project to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the Green Buildings Certification Institute.

Turner announced formal commitments to building green in 2004. It now employs more 1,200 LEED Accredited Professionals and recently published the second edition of the Turner Green Project Operations Manual for management and staff handling LEED-targeted contracts. In addition to finished LEED projects, the contractor has an additional 230 jobs targeted for certification. Green building projects comprise approximately 50 percent of Turner’s construction backlog.
