Ft. Worth, Texas-based architectural and structural precaster and design/build contractor Speed Fab-Crete Corp. has formed SFC Bridge Systems to market, engineer and ship three-sided, arch bridge structures. The company has fabricated such products as a subcontractor for nearly a decade.
The SFC Bridge Systems division will offer product meeting Texas Department of Transportation Specifications 4295-Precast C-Span Tunnel Structures and 4330-Precast Long Span Culvert Structures, plus companion wing wall and head wall components, and site delivery through the Speed Fab-Crete fleet. The producer casts the arches and components along with other highway and building products at its 16-acre Ft. Worth plant, which can serve much of Texas, and parts of Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Precast arches for pedestrian walkways and vehicular stream crossings or underpasses have seen growing acceptance among TexDOT engineers and contractors, along with Texas municipalities and private developers, notes SFC Bridge Systems’ Division Manager Jeff Harwell. Compared to conventional beams or culverts, the advantages of using our bridge products are speed and aesthetics, with the units produced off-site and ready for immediate installation upon delivery. Our clear span, arch system is basically a buried bridge, making it environmentally friendly, economical, durable and virtually maintenance free. Harwell recently joined Speed Fab-Crete with more than 25 years in precast, including tours of duty with Master Builders (Texas accounts) and Milwaukee-based Spancrete Group.
