Upper Midwest Producer Recognizes Decorative Project Award Winners

Ready-mixed and decorative concrete supplier Cemstone Products Co., based in Mendota Heights, Minn., announced winners of its 2008 Decorative Concrete Awards, recognizing excellence in design and installation of premium residential and commercial flatwork

Ready-mixed and decorative concrete supplier Cemstone Products Co., based in Mendota Heights, Minn., announced winners of its 2008 Decorative Concrete Awards, recognizing excellence in design and installation of premium residential and commercial flatwork. The contest’s nearly 60 contractor-submitted entries featured Cemstone-supplied colored, stamped and/or stained concrete.

Independently judged by Twin Cities-based landscape architects, winners were selected for creativity and excellence in four categories: Residential Exteriors, Residential Interiors, Commercial Exteriors and Commercial Interiors. Eight contractors were named Grand Prize and First Prize winners, as follows:

Residential Exteriors – Grand Prize was awarded to ThemeScapes, Inc., of Forest Lake, Minn., for a walkway project noted for colors, patterns and textures complementing and enhancing surrounding stone and piers. First Prize went to Bulach Custom Rock of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., for a driveway and walkway project showcasing an integrated approach that uses consistent scoring to tie together concrete patterns and colors marking vehicular and pedestrian areas.

Residential Interiors – Grand Prize winner was Foley Construction, Inc., of Le Sueur, Minn., whose kitchen countertop project features recycled crushed glass and a “curved back splash, both artistic and well done, plus unusual and impressive color.” First Prize was awarded to Countryside Construction Inc. of Belle Plaine, Minn., for a kitchen installation of stained concrete countertops.

Commercial ExteriorsGrand Prize winner ThemeScapes, Inc., was recognized for Kinderberry Hill Day Care playground, displaying “careful craftsmanship and design excellence, especially in the attention to detail from railings to rock walls.” First Prize was awarded to Bulach Custom Rock for the Minnesota Zoo decorative concrete walkway and landscape.

Commercial InteriorsGrand Prize winner Nelson Construction Services of Balsam Lake, Wis., earned kudos for office building interior flooring characterized by “diversity in color and texture [that] holds together, tight detailing, and clean transitions.” First Prize was awarded to Bulach Custom Rock for an interior flooring project featuring “beautiful joints that enhance the creative pattern and color change.”
