BAGHOUSE DUST COLLECTION

The launch of Torit PowerCore dust collectors with PowerCore filter packs solves a growing need for better filtration, reduced operational cost, and greater flexibility in baghouse dust collection, the manufacturer affirms. An extension of its patented PowerCore technology used in engine filtration, the company adds, Torit PowerCore dust collectors are smaller, yet more effective than traditional baghouses technologies.

Reportedly field tested with excellent results in major wood, cement, and plastics manufacturing operations for more than a year, full-scale collectors are now available in stand-alone and bin vent configurations. The stand-alone models are up to 50 percent smaller than conventional baghouses; and, bin vent models are up to 70 percent smaller. Besides saving space, the new technology allows point-of-use filtration, offers easy maintenance, and addresses cost concerns, company representatives note.

Integral to the dramatic downsizing of the Torit PowerCore collector, PowerCore media technology comprises a 7-in.-tall filter pack that replaces six traditional 8-ft.-long fabric filter bags. The PowerCore filter packs are removed from the clean side of the collector in minutes without using tools.

Product developers explain that PowerCore filter packs deliver better dust filtration by combining patented Ultra-Web surface-loading technology with a fluted-media design that allows more media in a small volume. Capturing both large and small dust particles, filter packs with Ultra-Web have been shown in independent lab tests, using EPA PM 2.5 standards, to provide up to 78 percent fewer emissions than traditional bags.

Besides ensuring cleaner air and greater product recovery, the filter pack’s fluted structure is said by the manufacturer to extend filter life and eliminate bridging problems commonly encountered with agglomerative materials. Unlike traditional filter bags that move when pulse cleaned or shaken, accelerating bag fatigue and wear, the PowerCore filter packs remain stationary. Additionally, Torit PowerCore is engineered to direct polluted air straight into the bottom of the filter pack, thus departing from traditional baghouse airflow patterns that direct incoming dirty air between hanging filter bags, which often leads to bridging. And, filters that don’t succumb to bridging and continue to filter longer with high efficiency and minimal servicing, the company emphasizes, entail lower cost over time for long-term value.

Moreover, smaller-sized Torit PowerCore collectors allow new applications at the point of use and can eliminate the need for complicated duct work or a large, energy-consuming central dust collector. With greater flexibility, manufacturers can maximize space on the plant floor while containing costs. Donaldson Torit

FOUNDATION REPAIR SYSTEM

Suited to repair of home foundations with crawl spaces, the DynaPier system handles settlement issues within confined areas. Since the piers feature attributes geared to crawl-space work, the manufacturer emphasizes, the system can achieve greater depth with less foundation load. Working in a confined space, therefore, the 2-in. DynaPier system provides deeper penetration into the soil until support strata for the structure have been changed.

Compact, maneuverable, and easy to use, product developers contend, the piering system has the characteristics needed to restore a crawl-space foundation. Its effectiveness reportedly lies in interlocking, patented DynaPier segments constructed of high-strength precast in a galvanized-steel sleeve, providing corrosion resistance as well as shear and compressive strengths. Accordingly, the outer casing is filled with a concrete core and cured for maximum hardness.

DynaPier segments are hydraulically driven into the ground one at a time. After a segment is driven, another section is connected to the previous one, and the process is repeated until the foundation pier is driven down to refusal, which may be bedrock or a dense strata of subsurface material. The foundation then is lifted, the pier is topped with a galvanized steel cap, and the foundation is secured to the pier. Manufacturer-cited benefits of the resulting foundation include:

  • Resistance to swelling and contacting caused by moisture differentials
  • Resting on bedrock, quality of soil verified upon installation
  • Support by load-bearing steel and concrete

Thus, the DynaPier system creates a foundation exceeding its original structural integrity, company officials assert, as it is supported on quality soil below the weather-impacted zone. DynaPier
