The Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI) has published a 2008 Supplement to the Third Edition of its Design of Post-Tensioned Slabs-on-Ground. Since the Third Edition was first printed in 2004, the PTI Slab-on-Ground Committee has approved two addenda and various errata. The 2008 Supplement incorporates Addenda Nos. 1 and 2, plus known errata, as well as updated design examples to reflect these changes. Also included as appendices are the related code standards, Standard Requirements for Analysis of Shallow Concrete Foundations on Expansive Soils and Standard Requirements for Design of Shallow Concrete Foundations on Expansive Soils, which are referenced by the International Building Code in its provisions for slab-on-ground foundations.
The price of The Third Edition with 2008 Supplement is $48.50 for PTI members and $69.50 for nonmembers. Previous purchasers of the Third Edition will receive an additional $10 discount.
Separately, PTI has announced dates and sessions for its 2009 Conference & Exhibition to be held May 3-5, 2009, at the Marriott Downtown Waterfront in Portland, Ore. The eighth annual conference is geared to engineers, architects, building officials, inspectors, contractors, specifiers, students, and researchers, i.e., all parties interested in post-tensioning. Offered at the two-day event will be technical sessions, panel discussions, committee meetings, educational seminars, product and software demonstrations, networking and social events, as well as a trade show featuring approximately 25 vendors. A range of post-tensioning topics will be addressed, including building design, bridges, evaluation and repair, slab-on-ground foundations, construction and installation, and innovative technologies. In addition, PTI will host its biannual Legends of Post-Tensioning Awards dinner and presentation. Continuing education units (CEUs) will be awarded for the conference.
