In recently released freeze-thaw durability field test results, the Federal Highway Administration notes that the vast majority of segmental retaining wall block have performed well and continue to perform well, even in cold climates and when exposed to deicing salts. Findings are contained in Durability of Segmental Retaining Wall Blocks: Final Report, covering University of Texas at Austin, Cornell University, and Texas A&M University research. The project explored unit deterioration mechanisms, identified variables that contribute to unit durability, and provided conclusions and recommendations for future work.
