Oldcastle Precast raises lifting capacity at major California operation

The Oldcastle Precast plant in Perris, Calif., recently deployed a pair of Shuttlelift Double Beam 90 Series rubber-tired gantry cranes. The 180,000-lb. capacity machines’ custom spreader assemblies enable crews to lift a wider variety of products than prior models; allow cranes to work independently or in tandem; and, equip the plant for future transportation market structures.

“Investment in the DB90 gantry cranes has given us the versatility needed to become more efficient in our staging and loading area,” says Perris Site Manager Scott Hicks. A Shuttlelift team worked with Oldcastle Precast early on to make sure the mobile gantry cranes would benefit current projects as well as contracts in the longer term, he adds.

The new rubber tired machines bear features and options to ease operation and maintenance. The cab is mounted on the lower side beam opposite the engine compartment with a custom stair system to make entry and egress as effortless as walking up and down a flight of stairs. Low mounted hoists, linkage-less steering, and a remote diagnostic feature help keep maintenance costs down while maximizing production time.

“We were seeing increased demand for a gantry crane with 90-ton capacity,” explains Shuttlelift Director of Industrial Sales Brock Rubens. “Instead of just offering our 110-ton capacity machine we wanted to design the DB90 in order to offer our customers a solution at a value that was more in line with the capacity they need.” — Shuttlelift, Sturgeon Bay, Wis., www.shuttlelift.com
