Quikrete meets First Lady’s specs for G.W. Bush Presidential Library

Scheduled for opening next month, the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum in Dallas will rank among the highest profile projects ever for pre-blended mortar, bulk silo system, core-fill grout and sand mix supplier Quikrete.

Dee Brown Inc. of Garland, Texas, masonry subcontractor to lead contractor Manhattan Construction Co., turned to Quikrete for all raw material necessary to finish the 207,000-sq.-ft. facility’s block, brick, stone and Texas limestone elements. The Quikrete schedule included 471 3,000-lb. bulk and 924 80-lb. bags of Portland Lime Type N Mortar in Cordova Cream, customized to First Lady Laura Bush’s specifications; 253 3,000-lb. bulk and 84 80-lb. bags of Portland Line Type S Mortar; 778 3,000-lb. bulk bags and 168 80-lb. bags of Core-Fill Grout; and 588 80-lb. bags of Sand Mix.

Project principals are seeking LEED Platinum certification for the George W. Bush Presidential Center, located on a 23-acre, Southern Methodist University campus site. Designed by Yale School of Architecture Dean Robert A.M. Stern, the facility will house 70 million-plus pages of records; a permanent exhibit, “Freedom, Responsibility, Opportunity and Compassion”; “Decision Points Theater”; and, full-size Oval Office replica.
