Ashley Smith, president and chief operating officer of Virginia’s Smith-Midland Corp., has been appointed 2017-18 National Precast Concrete Association chairman—a post his father and company co-founder, Rodney Smith, held in 1980. Ashley Smith has been involved with NPCA on various product committees and task forces throughout his career and served on the board since 2011. His one-year term began last month at NPCA’s 52nd Annual Convention in Atlanta. Smith-Midland was founded in 1960 and has been an NPCA member since 1971.

Wieser Concrete Products has promoted Andy Winkler to general manager of its Maiden Rock, Wis., flagship plant, tasked with leading safety, marketing, sales, administrative and service groups. Winkler joined the company 16 years ago and has been in the precast industry his entire career—completing tours of duty in production, delivery, installation and sales, while also playing a pivotal role in the safety program. Beyond the plant, he is Minnesota Onsite Wastewater Association president elect and National Precast Concrete Association Safety, Health and Environmental Committee member, and spearheaded an initiative that saw the Wisconsin Precast Concrete Association premier a boom truck certification class earlier this year.

Andy Wieser, president of Wieser Concrete Products in Maiden Rock, Wis., has been appointed the National Precast Concrete Association chairman, the term beginning at the NPCA 50th Annual Convention, held earlier this fall in Minneapolis. “It has been a great 50-year run, however, like any successful organization we have to continue to change to stay relevant,” Wieser told members upon his election. “With this strong foundation beneath us, we will continue to evolve in a very positive way. I’m honored to serve as chairman as we begin the next 50 years.”
