Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua, S.A.B. de C.V. reports ramp up of a 440,000-metric-ton capacity expansion of its Rapid City, S.D., cement plant. Work at the Dacotah mill began in 2016, with a total investment of just over $100 million. The expansion increases the plant’s production capacity to 1,167,000 mt and is expected to reduce variable production costs. Tie-in of the new facilities was completed in late November, while production—suspended during that phase—has resumed and the new facilities are in the stabilization process.

Titan America’s Roanoke Cement in Virginia has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star certification for a tenth consecutive year, while sister Pennsuco operation in Florida marks nine years of certification. To qualify for Energy Star, plants must perform in the top 25 percent of cement mills nationwide for total energy efficiency (thermal and electrical) and meet strict EPA performance levels.

Summit assembles Mid-Atlantic platform in Boxley, American Materials deals

Summit Materials Inc. has closed on key aggregate, concrete and asphalt production assets of Roanoke, Va.-based Boxley Materials Co., a 114-year-old operator serving Virginia and West Virginia.
