Precast pavement manual dovetails 100th lane mile of installed product
To address a fragmented engineering and technical library supporting members’ products for mainline concrete highway repair or construction, the National Precast Concrete Association Precast Concrete Slabs Committee enlisted leading practitioners Peter Smith, P.E. and Mark B. Snyder, Ph.D., P.E. to write and produce the photo- and schematic-rich Manual of Jointed Precast Concrete Pavement.

Oldcastle Precast’s Fontana, Calif., operation was set to close by this month the Interstate 210/Foothill Freeway Pavement and Slab Replacement Project precast schedule. Over an April 2016–March 2017 window, the producer fabricated 6,500 precast slabs, 12.5-ft. wide x 11.33-ft. long, to replace 9.7 miles of deteriorated, mainline pavement north of Los Angeles.

NPCA and Federal Highway Administration Precast Pavement Implementation Team representatives have scheduled a February 2 workshop, “Precast Concrete Pavements: Understanding the Potential of the Technology for the Precast Community,” at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown/Bayside, San Diego. The 8 a.m.–noon program will examine the latest best practices in precast pavement technology, and suit producers active in panel fabrication or interested in learning about the technology.
