Construction-specific ELD accounts for mixer, pump driver hours exemptions

A developer of market-specific tools for fleet operators and drivers bound by Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration hours of service rules cites the first electronic logging device programmed with functionality to reflect the agency’s hours of service rule exemptions for mixer and concrete pump drivers. GeoSpace Labs timed the early-February release of its construction-specific ELD with FMCSA’s formal announcement of exemptions for concrete delivery and placement vehicles, waiving drivers’ 30-minute break requirement and relaxing the reset period from 14 to 12 hours.

Outpak All-Weather Washout features heavy-duty, woven polypropylene construction to contain and transfer waste concrete and water from mixer trucks and pumps, plus lifting straps with 5:1 safety rating. Vessels are available in 4- x 4- x 14-in. (0.68-yd., 140-gal. capacity) and 6-ft. x 6-ft. x 12-in. (1.33-yd., 260-gal.) sizes, and fold for ease of handling.

Caterpillar has added to its Class 8 heavy-duty work truck line the CT681, a mixer- and dump-ready, set-forward axle model designed for operators contending with restrictive road and bridge load limitations. It was unveiled at ConExpo-Con/Agg 2014, nearly three years after a charter model, the set-back axle CT660, proved a key draw at the Las Vegas show’s 2011 staging.
