St. Louis-based Afinitas has appointed Dan Hodel as senior automation engineer, reporting to Dave Stoller, vice president of Global Engineering. He brings nearly 20 years’ experience with Johnson Gas of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; as a concrete curing division combustion engineer, he oversaw design, technical support, sales and marketing for pipe, prestressed, precast, block, paver and roof tile applications. Hodel also worked as an automation engineer for Advance Interface Solutions and process engineer for Eli Lilly.

New ASTM standard gauges prestressing strand bond integrity

ASTM A1096, Test Method for Evaluating the Bond Quality of Steel Wire for Concrete stems from assessment of precast concrete members where indented prestressing wires exhibit potential bond-related cracking. Soon to be published by ASTM Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys, the standard is based on A1081, Test Method for Evaluating Bond of Seven-Wire Steel Prestressing Strand.
