CalPortland approaches $100M in Energy Star-rooted savings

A 1.1 percent energy intensity reduction across ready mixed concrete, cement and aggregate operations, totaling $682,000 in savings, has netted CalPortland the 2017 EPA Energy Star Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award. Efficiencies attained in 2016 bring the West Coast producer to 15.6 percent energy intensity reduction and $96 million cumulative savings since 2003.

Empowered employees help Titan America mark a decade in EPA Energy Star ranks

Titan America’s Roanoke Cement in Virginia has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star certification for a tenth consecutive year, while sister Pennsuco operation in Florida marks nine years of certification. To qualify for Energy Star, plants must perform in the top 25 percent of cement mills nationwide for total energy efficiency (thermal and electrical) and meet strict EPA performance levels.

Multifamily lender lowers interest rates for LEED-certified projects

As part of its Multifamily Green Initiative, Fannie Mae is granting a 10 basis point reduction in the interest rate of a refinance, acquisition or supplemental mortgage loan for a multifamily property carrying certification or recognition under U.S. Green Building Council LEED, EPA Energy Star or Enterprise Green Communities programs. On a $10 million dollar loan amortizing over 30 years, an owner could save $95,000 in interest payments across a 10-year term based on 3.9 percent versus 4 percent market rate.

Cement companies dominate 2014 EPA Energy Star manufacturing roster

Twenty-seven portland cement mills and grinding operations are among 70 manufacturing sites to achieve EPA Energy Star certification for superior performance last year. Through energy management and efficiency initiatives, agency officials note, the entire group reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than 8 million metric tons and cut power expenditures $725 million.
