The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association and Portland Cement Association have named Joe Roche as chief financial officer, reporting to NRMCA President Mike Philipps and PCA CEO Mike Ireland. Roche arrives with 30-plus years’ management experience supporting non-profit and trade organizations, and immediately transitions from the National 4-H Council in Chevy Chase, Md. He will lead ongoing evaluation, development and implementation of NRMCA and PCA financial processes and systems, and oversee the groups’ Finance Shared Services agreement. Based primarily at the Alexandria, Va., association offices, Roche will work with external finance partners to implement process improvements, maximize system capabilities, and focus on staff development.

Research Council funds carbon calculator, recycled aggregate projects

The ACI Foundation’s Concrete Research Council (CRC) has announced grants for six projects this year, including two with environmental themes: “Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator Tool,” led by Kathrina Simonen of the University of Washington-hosted Carbon Leadership Forum, and Phil Northcott, C-Change Labs; and, “Effective Characterizations of Recycled Concrete Aggregate for Concrete Applications,” led by Jiong Hu, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Tara Cavalline, University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Council releases lightweight aggregate, tank structure research reports

ACI Foundation’s Concrete Research Council has announced Interface Shear Transfer of Lightweight Aggregate Concretes with Different Lightweight Aggregates and Evaluation of Seismic Performance Factors and Pedestal Shear Strength in Elevated Water Storage Tanks. Both are aimed at advancing the knowledge and sustainable aspects of the concrete industry in conjunction with ACI technical committee efforts.

Concrete Research Council funds tall building, pervious pavement, hollow core projects
