EPD data-fueled embodied carbon tool debuts at Greenbuild

The Carbon Leadership Forum (CLF), a University of Washington College of Built Environments-hosted coalition of architecture, engineering and construction stakeholders, formally launched the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3) tool in public beta version at the U.S. Green Building Council’s Greenbuild International Conference & Expo in Atlanta. Embodied carbon volumes reflect carbon dioxide emissions attributable to material or product processing, fabrication, delivery, and erection or placement.

In partnership with 30-plus architectural, engineering and construction entities, the University of Washington-hosted Carbon Leadership Forum (CLF) has scheduled release of the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator, or EC3, with the U.S. Green Building Council’s Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, November 19-22 in Atlanta. The open source tool will equip architects, engineers, owners, construction companies, building material suppliers and policy makers to compare and reduce construction materials’ embodied carbon emissions.

Concrete Product Category Rule revisions open to comment

Environmental auditor NSF International is accepting comments through July 27 on revisions to NRMCA’s charter Product Category Rule (PCR), issued in 2013 to support Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) covering concrete mix designs. Over the past 18 months, the association has collaborated with the University of Washington-hosted Carbon Leadership Forum plus other stakeholders to draft a revised Concrete PCR reflecting changes in industry practices and international standards.
