Turner Ventures mission: Incubate, Ignite, Invest

Ahead of the Ventures program, Turner Construction was an early adopter of technologies such as the Versatile crane camera, offering new perspective on concrete or steel pick safety and productivity.

A new program under New York-based Turner Construction Co., the top general contractor and leading self-perform concrete contractor, will invest in startup businesses presenting tangible solutions for projects, clients, and the environment. Turner Ventures aims to mentor, strengthen, and scale promising early- or growth-stage companies poised to revolutionize the industry. It will especially focus on climate technology and software developers with innovations reducing carbon emissions, improving energy efficiency and advancing sustainable materials, plus tools for digitalizing workflows, eliminating inefficiencies, and enhancing project team member collaboration. Turner Ventures sees three avenues to support candidates at various stages:

  • Incubate. Startups work directly with Turner Construction offices to pilot, test, and validate their innovations on actual projects.
  • Ignite. Turner Construction leaders provide mentorship and industry guidance to startups refining their solutions.
  • Invest. Turner Construction makes strategic capital investments in high-potential startups, accelerating their growth.

“Our industry is evolving at an unprecedented pace, and this shift compels us to invest in solutions that foster a more sustainable future,” says Turner Construction Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer Jim Barrett. “Through Turner Ventures, we’re backing mission-driven startups that share our commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship—giving them a powerful springboard for market adoption, while providing our clients and partners direct access to the next generation of promising technologies and tools.” Turner Ventures is actively seeking partnerships with startups abiding its vision of an efficient, sustainable, and technology-driven industry, he adds. — [email protected]
