EP Power Minerals of Germany, a global player in cementitious materials, has closed a platform-level deal for its North American business, acquiring Hastings, Minn.-based National Minerals Corp. The transaction brings EP Minerals America Inc. one Minnesota, one Wisconsin and five Iowa fly ash processing facilities, plus two Iowa and three Minnesota distribution terminals.

“The combination will strengthen our company and benefit utility partners, customers, and employees,” says National Minerals President Travis Collins, who retains his title over a business whose brand continues as NMC. “EP’s dedication to and experience with fly ash harvesting projects will be very valuable to our utility partners and customers in the future. We are excited to begin working together to develop more opportunities for increasing the use of fly ash, slag and other supplementary cementitious materials.”

“We welcome National Minerals and its leadership to our globally connected network of companies and look forward to jointly growing our business to provide additional products and services to concrete customers and power utility clients,” adds EP Power Minerals Americas CEO Dr. Rafic Minkara. A Boral Material Technologies veteran based in Georgia, he is spearheading a North American market expansion while also serving as EP Power Minerals head of Technology and Global Project Development. The latter assignment has involved ash harvesting and processing pursuits in Europe.

EP Power Minerals is part of the European energy Group Energetický a průmyslový holding. Along with supplementary cementitious materials derived from power plant byproducts, it processes blasting abrasives and mineral residues.
