The American Concrete Institute presents its updated strategic plan as a roadmap designed to lead the future of concrete in an evolving global landscape. The new strategy centers on five areas of focus, each with three directives:

  • Advance Expertise. Continuously improve and expand concrete knowledge.
Catalyze industry innovation and progress. Be nimble and adaptive.
  • Disseminate Knowledge. Convey expertise through documents and outreach.
Educate on the benefits and applications of concrete. Expand certification programs.
  • Engage Globally. Expand in key international locations. Provide ACI documents in other languages and customize them where appropriate. Increase international participation in ACI.
  • Advance Resiliency and Sustainability. Actively define concrete resiliency and sustainability. Support stakeholders in achieving resiliency and sustainability. Be responsible stewards of our world to benefit future generations.
  • Enhance the ACI Experience. Deliver engaging, valuable membership experiences.
Attract, engage, and support young members. Foster a vibrant, inclusive community.

“In updating our vision and mission to be clear and cogent, the new strategic plan reiterates our core purpose and importantly emphasizes commitment to engagement—both internal and external—in a global approach that embraces sustainability and responsible stewardship,” says 2024 ACI President Michael Paul, who initiated the update following the spring convention last year in Philadelphia.

A task group behind the revised strategy included ACI Vice President Scott Anderson and Executive Vice President Fred Grubbe, John Glumb, Ann Harrer, Carol Hayek, Kimberly Kayler and Anton Schindler. They prepared the new focus points and calls to action to ensure the Institute remains adaptable, effective, and aligned with the needs of its members and the global concrete community. ACI directors approved the updated plan in November, setting the stage for implementation following the spring convention earlier this month in Toronto.
