Mapei Corp. unveiled its Manufactured Stone Veneer Systems (MSVS) line against an International Builders’ Show backdrop, February 25-27 in Las Vegas. The comprehensive mortar, flashing tape, sealant and care product offering suits precast concrete or natural stone veneer and thin-brick siding, and joins a deep concrete admixture, grout, surface treatment and repair compound portfolio.

“Manufactured Stone Veneer Systems represents our commitment to providing contractors with high-performance, user-friendly solutions,” says Mapei Product Manager Sonya Moste. “The MSVS line is engineered to simplify compliance with changing building codes while enhancing installation efficiency and quality. With these products, contractors can build faster, better and more sustainably.”

MSVS includes premium mortars that meet guidelines of ANSI A118.4 American National Standard Specifications for Modified Dry-Set Cement Mortar and A118.5 American National Standard Specifications for Chemical Resistant Furan Mortars and Grouts for Tile Installation. Both standards are referenced in 2022 versions of The Masonry Society’s Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures (TMS 402) and Specification for Masonry Structures (TMS 602). In turn, TMS 402/602 are referenced in the 2024 International Building Code and International Residential Code. TMS stipulates the ANSI standards for manufactured stone veneer units over 1 square foot and commercial building walls exceeding 10 feet. Compliant mortars allow for direct bonding to cement board, concrete masonry unit or other cement-based substrates without reinforcing mesh in installations up to 60 feet above grade.

MSVS mortars are formulated to eliminate efflorescence and deliver superior performance in all climates—from humid Southern states to freeze/thaw-prone northern Canada—ensuring what product engineers note is “a flawless finish with no callbacks.” They perform in conjunction with Mapei water-resistive barriers, providing robust protection against moisture intrusion; Mapelastic WP, a vapor retarder for non-climatized spaces such as stand-alone columns and retaining walls; and, Mapelastic WRB, a vapor permeable solution.
