CarbonBuilt, developer of a commercialized process for capturing and utilizing carbon dioxide in concrete masonry unit production, has acquired Connecticut-based Jolley Concrete and Block, a family-owned unit masonry and ready mixed producer. CarbonBuilt will upgrade an existing gray block and segmental retaining wall unit production line with its proprietary decarbonization technology to become the New England market’s first commercial source of ultra-low carbon, manufactured concrete. The transaction closed with the support of TheNewClimate, Inc., Schmidt Family Foundation, and Meta Platforms, and included a sale of the ready mixed business to Massachusetts’ Sterling Concrete Corp.

“The acquisition of Jolley Concrete builds on our years of technology development and commercial deployment,” says CarbonBuilt CEO Michelle Carvin, who has taken the helm after serving as chief financial officer. “We are thrilled to welcome the Jolley Concrete team and look forward to growing the business together. We are building a platform of deeply decarbonized concrete manufacturing plants and forging partnerships that will transform the future of the masonry and hardscapes industry.”

CarbonBuilt principals elevated Carvin based on her extensive mergers & acquisitions experience within the industrial sector during a Goldman Sachs tenure. They view her as well equipped to grow the business through strategic acquisitions, vertical integration into concrete production, and deployment of CarbonBuilt technology at scale.

Concurrently, CarbonBuilt has announced two other key appointments: Brian Bush as chief manufacturing officer, who arrives with experience from Austin Block & Quarry, Partanna and Oldcastle tours; and Conor Cooper, promoted from head of Business Development to chief commercial officer, leveraging background and an extensive Northeast network he gained as Oldcastle APG Anchor Division president.
