The Concrete Masonry Checkoff has appointed technical directors for two of five U.S. regions in the virtual Block Design Collective, a visionary design assistance portal where architects and engineers can access complementary building project services. Charles “Chuck” Rotondo and Tino Kalayil, P.E. will respectively lead the assembly and activation of their localized Northeast (Region 1) and Midwest (Region 3) design expert teams, ensuring individuals receive timely, tailored support. The Collective is programmed to address design challenges and climate considerations unique to each region.
“The addition of Tino and Chuck is a milestone for the Block Design Collective,” says CMC National Design Technical Director Riley Dvorak. “They’re both natural problem solvers who understand the pressures designers are up against. Human connection still counts in our industry, and people will really appreciate each’s expertise and approachability.”
Kalayil holds a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Marquette University, Milwaukee, where he served as College of Engineering adjunct instructor. He arrives at CMC from a regional director position at Woodworks, an online community to facilitate collaboration among professionals using wood-building systems and technologies. Rotondo graduated from the University of Maryland with an accounting degree. After a tour in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America apprenticeship program, he founded a firm specializing in product specification services for Metro New York architects, interior designers, building owners, homeowners, and contractors.
