Weather-tested Gainey’s Concrete provides Hurricane Helene relief

An urgent inquiry from the LaBella Associates Charlotte office prompted Louisiana-based Gainey’s Concrete Products to shift its late-2024 production schedule to expedite delivery of a six precast structures three states east. The elements were central to restoring a sewer pump station serving Lake Lure, N.C., located in one of the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Helene-driven weather. Damage to the facility resulted in the discharge of two towns’ sewerage to a local river.

Production spontaneity, coupled with empathy for those recovering from the impact of catastrophic weather, drove Gainey’s Concrete to finish the Lake Lure sewer lift station contract in days.

“It was an environmental necessity for the station to be up and running again,” says Gainey’s Concrete CEO Lisa Roache. “This project was significant because of human welfare and the sanitary condition for the people of Lake Lure. Our hearts were really going out to North Carolina and the other areas affected because we’ve been in similar situations and appreciated the people who had our backs.”

“Gainey’s Concrete worked with us to find the quickest solution for the emergency project and, as it turned out, had the precast on site ahead of when the contractor was ready to use it,” adds LaBella Associates’ Brian Houston, P.E., LEED AP. “Our experience was stellar.”
