Associated Builders and Contractors Technology and Innovation Director Patrick Scarpati opens the fourth annual ABC Tech Report noting how artificial intelligence, by applying machine learning, computer vision and data analytics, “is revolutionizing the construction industry by enhancing efficiency, safety and decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. The possibilities may sound endless, but as an industry traditionally looking from the outside in at technology, we must first step back to educate ourselves on the basics.”
The document was published by the ABC National Construction Technology and Innovation Committee and prepared by a cross-collaboration of partners, contractors and industry leaders. It includes an AI Resource Guide summarizing technology basics; a real-life case study from ABC contractor member Hensel Phelps; plus, Dodge Construction Network and Tech Alliance member insights. The ABC AI Tech Report is made possible by ABC’s 2024-2025 Tech Alliance members: Arcoro, Autodesk Inc., BuildOps, Document Crunch, Egnyte, Field Control Analytics, Kojo, KPA, Procore, Sage, Smartapp, SmartBuild, SubHQ, Stack and Trimble.
“The interest in AI and machine learning is vast, which is why any contractor would find value in reading this report,” affirms Construction Technology and Innovation Committee Chair Patrick Irwin (Leonard S. Fiore Inc., Altoona, Pa.). “For contractors and the construction industry in general, there is so much for us to learn relative to AI and ML so that we understand possible uses and overall implications. These tools can be used to move our businesses and the industry forward, and this report can give us all an opportunity to begin or continue our AI journey.”
