Kohler’s Kast Concrete studio instills terrazzo accents for basin series

A year out from acquiring Kast Concrete Basins, Kohler Co. shows all the signs of letting the United Kingdom studio’s artisans continue pushing the envelope in exemplary precast mix design, fabrication and finishing. Kohler arrived at the 2024 Kitchen & Bath Industry Show with Holm, a new Kast collection with terrazzo inserts. Holm is billed as “a testament to the fusion of materials and creative vision” and integrating “speckled visuals with the refined tactility of concrete.” The terrazzo insert serves a dual purpose by enhancing aesthetic appeal while discreetly concealing basin waste and can be effortlessly removed for cleaning. Holm joins what Kohler officials characterizes as an “exceptional portfolio of contemporary concrete washbasins, each a testament to the brand’s commitment to design excellence and manufacturing innovation.”

Kohler makes no secret of the underlying Kast material and novelty of a precast production facility on the edge of England’s Sherwood Forest, noting: Every product is meticulously handcrafted using traditional aggregate-based concrete, sourced from local Derbyshire limestone suppliers. The premium materials behind Holm and sister collections are thoughtfully mixed with specially sourced sands and high-quality pigments, resulting in the Kast palette of 28 distinct colors. “This innovative blend, refined through persistent experimentation and attention to detail, ensures both strength and velvety finishes, allowing Kast to redefine the possibilities of concrete design,” the manufacturer affirms.

Holm debuted shortly after the premier of Wave, whose Tilde, Dune and Prim basins celebrate “the charm of undulating forms and whimsical silhouettes,” Kast notes. “This contemporary collection breaks away from the confines of conventional straight lines and embraces the joyful liberation of curves. Channeling the exuberant spirit of the Italian Radicalism and Postmodernism movements, Wave captures the essence of individuality and playfulness.” — www.kastconcretebasins.com
