University of Miami’s Nanni leads ACI 2023-24 officer slate

University of Miami Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering Chair and Professor Antonio Nanni has been elected American Concrete Institute 2023-24 president. His institute activities have included work on ACI Committee 318, Structural Concrete Building Code plus  International Advisory and Technical Activities Committees, along with ACI Board of Direction and ACI Foundation Trustee appointments.

ACI members have also elected another peer with a record of committee contributions,  University of Texas Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering L.B. Meaders Professor of Engineering Maria Juenger, as vice president. Along with her ACI work, she studies cement-based materials’ interaction with the environment, plus development and characterization of cementitious systems with lower carbon dioxide and energy footprints than conventional alternatives. 

In addition to officers, ACI has appointed as directors Kiewit Corp. Chief Concrete Engineer and Materials Engineering Manager Oscar Antommattei; Peter Barlow, FACI, concrete repair and restoration consultant and founder of Seattle-based Contech Services Inc.; Cemex Mexico Innovation and Sustainability Manager Arturo Gaytan Covarrubias, FACI; and, CCL International Chief Technical Officer Carol Hayek.
