A major precast wall producer sought a mobile lifting solution to transfer 50,000-lb. panels safely and efficiently from form tables, located in a main plant enclosure, to a high-density outdoor storage area. The objective was to stack wall panels in uniform rows with minimum spacing between stacks.
A 16-ft. exterior door height limited plant access for traditional wall panel handling equipment and hardware, the latter prone to damaging storage-bound product.
Working with the producer’s operations and safety teams, Combilift designed and customized an 80,000-lb. capacity straddle carrier with vertical telescopic section. As the only telescopic straddle carrier from a global manufacturer, the Combi-SC allows low door access to enter buildings, along with the added benefit of facilitating higher storage capabilities. In addition, the machine is equipped with a customer supplied, purpose-built vacuum attachment that improves wall panel handling by eliminating the traditional labor-intensive chain and shackle connection method.
