Segmental concrete pavement growth evident in ICPI report

The Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute has released its annual Industry Sales Profile, representing the most accurate and current information publicly available on United States and Canadian segmental concrete pavement shipments. The Profile tracks growth patterns indicative of 100-plus producers running about 250 high-output machines in more than 200 plant locations.

Twenty producers operating 130 paver machines participated in a survey forming the basis for the 30-page 2020 Industry Sales Profile. Respondents provided 2018 and 2019 shipment data for concrete pavers, permeable pavers, grid paving units and paving slabs to reveal year-over-year trends in residential, commercial, municipal and industrial markets. The report also provides overall sales trends since 2011, which demonstrates continued industry growth since private and public construction emerged from the Great Recession.

Among 2020 Profile notables: Combined U.S. and Canada permeable interlocking concrete paver sales (PICP) grew from an average of 1.61 million square feet in 2018 to 1.71 million square feet in 2019 among the companies responding to the survey. When projected to the total number of producers, PICP leads the segmental pavement market in growth in the U.S. Looking back at previous years’ survey results, the data suggests continued growth above industry averages compared to other paving products. The trend is likely driven by regulations to reduce stormwater runoff pollutants and volumes in commercial and residential projects.

PAVESTONE SERIES EMULATES PLANK

On the heels of the most recent American Institute of Architects Home Design Trends Survey showing how more than 50 percent of exterior projects are focused on outdoor living space, Pavestone has announced a paver series as an extension of popular linear designs found indoors. The 16-in. square Avant stones suit contemporary patio, walkways and other pedestrian surfaces. Available in a trend-forward gray blends, they offer the look of large format plank pavers, but install with the ease of traditional square units for new outdoor living space or as an overlay on existing patios. Eliminating the skill, precision, labor and time commonly required to install individual large format plank pavers, the Avant patio stones come in six different face textures that are strategically packaged on a pallet to ease attainment of a linear design for outdoor surfaces.
