Hawaiian Cement has unveiled plans for a $6.5 million shipping facility along Pier 2 in Kahului Harbor, doubling cement storage capacity to 6,000 tons. As noted in a Maui News report, the project will carry into 2021 and entail construction of two 90-ft. silos, a 1,750-sq.-ft. warehouse, truck loading area, plus equipment and bagging rooms. Two new underground pipelines will connect the new silos to Pier 3.

Daniel McCarthy has been appointed chief executive officer of New York-based Dodge Data & Analytics. He arrives with 25-plus years in executive roles at Network Communications, a provider of lead generation, advertising and Internet marketing solutions; publisher Primedia Enthusiast Media; business information provider Cowles Business Media; and, most recently, Taunton Press, a publisher of periodicals, books, and websites for hobbyist and building trades.

“His strong background in data services, extensive history of successful business transformation, product-led innovation, and prior experience serving one of Dodge’s key customer groups—building product manufacturers—will undoubtedly serve him well in this new role,” says Bill Chisholm, managing partner at Symphony Technology Group, Dodge’s primary investor. “We look forward to working with him to enable Dodge to continue its leadership in U.S. commercial construction project data and analytics and deliver greater value for our current and future clients alike.”

St. Louis-based Afinitas has announced three appointments across its equipment divisions and brands. Jason Banwart, presently the Pre-Sales and Applications Engineering leader at HawkeyePedershaab in Mediapolis, Iowa, has been promoted to director of Technical Sales for both the Afinitas Equipment & Automation and Forming Systems Divisions. Banwart has been with the company for 10 years and worked in a variety of design and project engineering roles. For the past three years he led the Inside Sales and Applications Engineering Team.

Randy Ellingson, presently Afinitas Forming Systems sales/quotations specialist, has been promoted to Forming Systems quoting leader/sales. He joined Afinitas company New Hampton Metal Fab in 2018, and has served in numerous manufacturing or construction roles, including as general manager at ABCO Manufacturing, plus project manager at Featherlite Trailers and Calmar Manufacturing. Reed Finch, who joined HawkeyePedershaab in Mediapolis in 2019 as an outside sales trainee in the Equipment and Automation Division, has been promoted to Western Region sales manager for the Afinitas Forming Systems Division, and will be based out of Denver.

Caterpillar Inc. has acquired select assets and human capital from San Francisco-based robot and autonomy technology solutions specialist Marble Robot, Inc. The deal is part of an automation and autonomy strategy behind Caterpillar’s commitment to the next generation of jobsite solutions. Building on its leadership in autonomous mining, the company plans to leverage Marble Robot team expertise to bring scalable solutions to meet the changing needs of construction, quarry and industrial equipment customers.

Caterpillar is well-positioned to grow services based on its large installed base of connected equipment, field technology and decades of product, service and application expertise to turn that experience into useful insights for customers. The company will continue to make investments in emerging technologies, like automation and autonomy, in order to bring innovative solutions to meet challenges in construction and mining.
