Maxon parlays mixer fleet-optimizing load transfer solution

A package of technology and iron developed and patented by the top independent producer in ready mixed concrete, Mokena, Ill.-based Ozinga Bros. Inc., tackles an intermediate transfer function between the batch plant and mix placement.

Equipped for an hourly transfer rate upward of 200 yd., the TranzLoader is sized to meet concrete plant output and contractor placement requirements on remote or specialized sites not warranting portable plant ramp up. Ozinga Bros. has proved the economy and efficiency of deploying dump trucks from batch plant to TranzLoader tub, then enlisting mixer trucks for final concrete placement.

Part vessel, part conveyor, the TranzLoader travels in tractor trailer mode and is equal to 200-plus yards of concrete per hour. Taking a page from paving trains, it enables a ready mixed producer or concrete contractor to dispatch loads in dump trucks. They charge the 12-yd. tub of the TranzLoader, whose 42-in. variable speed belt then transfers material to a mixer truck or other delivery vehicle best suited to the pouring and forming parameters. Operated by one technician with a remote control, the TranzLoader can be deployed in less than an hour after staging area arrival. It runs on a Tier 4 Final engine and includes a wash down system.

The Ozinga Florida satellite business developed the TranzLoader for a 2017 ready mixed supply contract involving drilled foundations for power distribution towers spanning the Everglades—the pours located 80 to 90 miles from the batch plant. Ozinga Florida staff envisioned the TranzLoader, originally dubbed Oztran, as capable of receiving concrete from dump trucks, then conveying the loads to a small mixer fleet serving the foundation pours. The high slump mixes were designed with retarders to ensure six- to eight-hour set windows.

Ozinga Bros. has recently teamed with longtime concrete transport vehicle specialist, Wisconsin-based Maxon Industries, to manufacture the TranzLoader and lease or distribute the equipment to ready mixed producers and concrete contractors. — Maxon Industries Inc., Milwaukee; 414/351-4000, 800/236-9944; www.maxon.com
