Top concrete photo worth $10,000 in global competition

The Global Cement and Concrete Association, London, is accepting entries through September 11 for the “Concrete in Life” global photography competition, open to professional and amateur photographers via social media and spanning three categories:

  • Urban design and use: City landscapes and buildings
  • Practical concrete: Infrastructure, cities to rural areas, above and below ground structures
  • Small scale: From a village water tank to an urban sculpture, to a kitchen countertop

“This competition is a great opportunity to show the world what we at GCCA already know—that concrete is a versatile, innovative and essential building block for our society,” says Chief Executive Benjamin Sporton. “We hope entrants will be inspired by the myriad ways in which it is being used all over the world.”

GCCA iiEntrants can post pictures on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #ConcreteInLife, and use the same platforms for the category they wish to enter: #UrbanConcrete, #PracticalConcrete and #SmallScaleConcrete. A judging panel of photography and industry experts will select a professional and amateur winner from each category, as well as one overall “Best Concrete in Life” photo of the year from the six finalists. The photographer behind the overall winner will receive a $10,000 prize as well as the chance to join an October 10 awards dinner during the GCCA Conference in Singapore. Each of the five remaining amateur and professional winners will receive $2,500. Full competition details are posted at
