Smith-Midland soundwall contract approaches 1 million sq. ft.

FAM Construction LLC (a Ferrovial Agroman US and Allan Myers joint venture) has awarded Smith-Midland a contract to supply 900,000 square feet of SoftSound noise absorptive precast concrete sound wall panels for the Interstate 66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes. The 22.5-mile, northern Virginia project will provide two express lanes along three regular lanes from Interstate 495 to Route 29 in Gainesville, plus other amenities and space reserved for future transit options.

University of Illinois’ Lange tops 2018-19 ACI officer slate

University of Illinois Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering David Lange was elected 2018-19 ACI president during The Concrete Convention and Exposition in Salt Lake City. Joining him for two-year terms are Vice President Jeffrey Coleman, principal partner of The Coleman Law Firm, Minneapolis; and, Senior Vice President Randall Poston, senior principal, Pivot Engineers, Austin, Texas.

Building resilience, risk assessment shape new Green Globes rating system

After three years of open dialogue and consensus-based decision making, Green Building Initiative (GBI) is consummating an American National Standards Institute-modeled process to update ANSI/GBI 01-2010: Green Building Assessment Protocol for Commercial Buildings, which frames the 2013 Green Globes building rating system.
