Caltrans veteran takes helm of lightweight aggregate group

California State University, Fresno College of Engineering Associate Professor Fariborz Tehrani, Ph.D., P.E., has been named Expanded Shale, Clay and Slate Institute director, bringing nearly three decades of structural and geotechnical engineering experience.

Dr. Tehrani began his career as a structural engineer in consulting firms, proceeding to faculty positions at educational institutes and a 10-year California Department of Transportation tour of duty. As an author of three books and nearly 50 technical articles and research reports, he has focused on structural analysis, earthquake resistant design, building materials and construction, road and bridge work, and project management. Dr. Tehrani has contributed to the engineering design of 50-plus structures, as well as management and planning behind projects totaling nearly $150 million.
